interRAI Early Years (EY) Assessment Form and User’s Manual for Use with Community-Based Assessments, interRAI Standard Edition, 10.0

The interRAI Early Years Assessment System is intended for use with young children with developmental and mental health concerns to support comprehensive care planning, outcome measurement, quality indicators, and case mix classification to estimate relative resource intensity. It employs specific observation periods to provide reliable and valid measures of clinical characteristics that reflect the young child’s strengths, preferences, and needs. In keeping with other interRAI instruments, the basic time frame for assessment was set at 3 days unless otherwise indicated. Triggers for numerous Collaborative Action Plans (CAPs) to support care-planning decisions are also embedded in the instrument. NOTE: In February 2025, interRAI released version 10.0.1 of the Early Years (EY) Assessment Form that corrected a numbering error in sub-items a-bb in item O4. Fine Motor. The sub-items incorrectly referred to item O5 instead of item O4. These references were corrected in version 10.0.1 of the assessment form. All other items in the assessment form as well as the text of the accompanying Early Years manual remain unchanged.
